Case summary:
Person X was working as a nurse in externship program 2 summers ago. At that time, she worked with Patient J who was an 8-year-old boy and suffered from encephalitis. The boy would become aggressive and violent at times. This behavior was due to encephalitis.
The only way to make him calm was to speak to him in Spanish; very were few nurses know Spanish and used this technique to calm him down. Most of the nurses and physicians would ignore him and his behavior. They give him some medication to calm him.
One day Person X was with the physician. The physician was preparing Patient J’s report. Patient J started to be violent and had a rude behavior; the physician started complaining about the Patient J’s behavior and did not take any efforts to calm him, instead he gave him medication to calm him. Person X would help Patient X to calm down in such a situation, but she did not use any technique because it disrespected the physician.
