The role of the PTH (parathyroid hormone) in maintaining the calcium ion homeostasis.
Introduction:
The PTH is secreted by the chief cells present in the parathyroid gland. The main role of this hormone is to maintain the normal range of the calcium ions in the blood. It is secretedin the condition called hypocalcemia in which the blood calcium levels decrease below the normal range. It maintains the homeostasis of the calcium ions in the blood by a negative feedback loop.
