The sympathic division is often named as division of the thoracolumbar as it originates from the spinal cord's thoracic and lumbar areas. It has fairly short preanglionic fibers and long postganglionic fibers. Preganglionic neurosomes are the spinal cord's gray matter in the lateral horns and nearby regions.
