Hypertext Markup Language (HTML):

• It is one of the markup languages that is used to format web documents.
• It contains opening and closing tags that tells the browser how to organize the text, headings, body, title, and so on.
• HTML contains codes that are placed in a file in order to display on a browser.
• The web browser renders the code in HTML file and it displays the page and its associated files.

Extensible Markup Language (XML):

• A language that describes a set of instructions used for encoding the information into both human and machine understandable format is called XML.
  • It is used to hold the information (metadata) of any document.
• It is also called as metalanguage because it describes other languages which allows developers to design their own markup languages.
• It is established by World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).
• It is an extended version of Standard Generalized Markup Language (SGML).
• The extension of the filename is “.xml”.
