Interpretation:

The reason for increase in hexokinase activity in the presence of xylose should be determined.

Concept introduction:

The hexokinase enzyme phosphorylates the six carbon sugar. The substrate of hexokinase is glucose and its product is glucose-6-phosphate. Hexokinase transfers phosphate group from ATP to the substrate. This enzyme is found in liver and pancreas and regulates the blood glucose levels.
