Concept introduction:

Spectroscopy based on the splitting of Ml levels of a nuclei is termed as nuclear magnetic resonance or NMR. The splitting is due to the similar behaviour of nucleus as the electron. Like electrons, nucleus have nonzero spin and a magnetic dipole associated with it. This leads to splitting in an external magnetic field.
