Introduction:
Autonomic nervous system regulates the involuntary physiological functions in the body. It consists of sympathetic and parasympathetic divisions. Both these systems innervate the target organs based on the sensory stimuli externally and internally. Their innervation and passage of sensory impulses takes place by means of neurotransmitters, a chemical messenger and its respective receptor site on the organ. This has been explained below:
