The hematocrit can be defined as the volume of the red blood cells to the total volume of the blood. Lower hematocrit value is indicative of anemia in which there is less volume of RBCs in the blood. On the other hand, a higher volume of hematocrit indicates polycythemia where the number of RBCs in the blood rises.
