At Normal height from the sea level the atmospheric pressure in normal and is balanced by the internal pressure. However, as the height increases the atmospheric pressure decreases and internal pressure remain same. In the ear of man has air filled portion behind the eardrum. There always air pressure equalization occurs.
At high altitude due to pressure difference Eustachian tube get blocked. When this happens ear popping occurs. Thus, ear popping is discomfort experienced by the ear due to the pressure difference.
Conclusion:
At high altitude the atmospheric pressure is low compared to the internal pressure. In order to equalize the pressure in the ear popping occurs.
