Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation: The combustion of fossil fuels is given to release ${\text{SO}}_{\text{2}}$ into the atmosphere. The rate of reaction is faster in the reaction of ${\text{SO}}_{\text{2}}$ with ${\text{NO}}_{\text{2}}$. ${\text{NO}}_{\text{2}}$ acting as a catalyst in the reaction of ${\text{SO}}_{\text{2}}$ with ${\text{O}}_{\text{2}}$ is to be validated.

Concept introduction: Catalyst is that substance which increases the rate of a reaction, but it is not included in the overall reaction.

To determine: If ${\text{NO}}_{\text{2}}$ is a catalyst in the reaction of ${\text{SO}}_{\text{2}}$ with ${\text{O}}_{\text{2}}$.
