Why certain cells in the body such as cells in the bone marrow are more vulnerable to ribosomal protein mutations than other types of cells.
Introduction:
In all living organisms, ribosomes are important for the synthesis of proteins. Any mutation in the ribosomal proteins affects the normal functioning of ribosomes and it may result in a variety of diseases which is collectively called as ribosomopathies. Diamond Blackfan anemia, schwachman-diamond syndrome, X-linked dyskeratosis congenita are some of the disease caused due to ribosomal mutations.
