Summary Introduction

To determine: The cost of transforming glucose to pyruvate through glycolysis and back again to glucose through gluconeogenesis.

Introduction:

Glycolysis is a sequence of enzyme catalyzed reactions that yield two molecules of the three carbon compound pyruvate along with the free energy which is conserved in the form of NADH and ATP. Gluconeogenesis is the pathway that provides glucose to cell from noncarbohydrate source. In this pathway pyruvate and other three or four carbon compounds are converted into glucose.
