Explanation of Solution
Float switches are the switches that control the operation of a pump with respect to the level of liquid present in the storage tank or sump. In rod type float switches, a float is connected to a rod that moves up or down according to the level of liquid present in a tank or sump, thereby opening or closing the contacts of a float switch.
Before employing a float switch, the amount of movement of float that is required to open or close the contacts of a float switch should be defined and configured. The configuration of float movement is achieved by adjusting the stops provided on the rod.
Thus, the amount of float movement that is required to open or close the contacts is equal to the distance between the stops of a float rod. By adjusting the stops of a float rod, one can vary the amount of float movement.
