Introduction:
Pharmacogenomics is used in studying the role of genome in drug response. It combines two disciples of science: pharmacology that study the drug action and genomics that is connected to the study of complete set of DNA. Thus it deals with the effect of genetic or acquired variation on drug response in patients. Pharmacogenomics aims to develop new ways to optimize drug use with respect to the patient’s genotype that ensure the maximum effectiveness of drug with minimal side effect.

The Esp gene encodes a protein that alters the structure of the insulin receptor on osteoblasts and interferes with the binding of insulin to the receptor.
