Concept explainers
To determine which measure of central tendency will best represent the data. And to calculate that measure of central tendency.

Answer to Problem 9PPS
Mean , 825.6
Explanation of Solution
Given:A table showing football teams with most wins is given as below.
University | All time football wins |
Michigan | 869 |
Notre Dame | 824 |
Texas | 820 |
Nebraska | 817 |
Ohio state | 798 |
Formula used:
Mean = Sum of all data / number of all data
Mean will be the most suitable measure of central tendency for the given data because it includes all the given data in its calculation and represents the complete data. However, use of mean is avoided in case of highly skewed data or data having outliers or extreme values as compared to other values in the given data. But, in this case there is not such kind of values in the given data. So, Mean would be the best suitable measure of central tendency of the given data.
Now, mean of the given data;
