Storage Area Network (SAN):

Storage Area Network are fast networks provided by Fibre channel and 10 Gigabit Ethernet, that has an enabled construction of dedicated networs built specially for storage access and data management.

• SAN logically extend the local storage buses by making storage devices collections accessible to all computer platforms – small, medium, and large. Storage devices will be allocated with the hosts or can be miles away serving as “hot” backups for a primary processing site.
• SANs have faster access to large storage amounts which can be provided by the NAS model.
• SANs are also known as “the network behind the network”, and are isolated from network traffic.
• Fibre channel storage networks are much faster than that of NAS systems because they have only one protocol stack to traverse. Therefore, they bypass traditional file servers that can cause network traffic...
