Feamles carry two X chromosomes whereas male carry one X chromosome. The presence of two X chromosomes result in formation of double amount of protein which may result in diseased condition. Thus, the inactivation of one X chromosome in female is necessary. This phenomena is known as dosage compensation and the inactivated X chromosome is present in form of Barr body.
