Explanation of Solution
There are two types of groups namely, formal groups which is usually created by the organization management in order to create better understanding and environment to develop effectively. Informal groups are not mentioned to be created by themselves but they made up by mutual understanding among or in the environment for their mutual area of work for e.g. people who come at same place for lunch they make the group by their own understanding.
As mentioned that groups are formed in either formal ways or informal ways. So to clarify the need of groups there stages which defines the need to run the groups efficiently.
The five stages of working are as follows:
STAGE 1:- Forming
Forming stage occur when people start joining the group of their concern. And secondly, as they join the group they start deciding purpose, structure, leadership of the group. This phase is the most uncertain phase where members eventually starts judging the behavior of other member in the group and react accordingly.
STAGE 2:- Storming
As in this stage members eventually occur with conflict that who will lead the group. Relatively clear the hierarchy of the group. Members with immense influencing power will grow and acquire the leadership.
STAGE 3:- Norming
At this point of stage members start creating close relationship and group become cohesive. Now members have chosen their leader and started following the leadership. Now the groups ready to work to their targeted goals.
STAGE 4:- Performing
As for now member knew each other and are ready to perform the task for which the group is created, this is the last stage of development for permanent work groups. However for temporary groups like project team, task forces and other similar groups that had limited task to do. Here the groups perform for which they have been made for.
STAGE 5:- Adjourning
This is the final stage where the groups start dismantling. All related task which are been performed occur to be winding up. Group members show their reactions in different ways, some are thrilled and joyous, enjoy the completion of tasks but other may show sadness and less interested in winding up.
