24-year-old patient as a chain smoker who smokes 2 pack of cigarettes/day visits the clinic to talk about quit smoking. She starts smoking since her 14th age. She says that it’s very hard to quit the smoking habit. She is smoking more now than before due to stress in her job.

Explanation of Solution
The nurse should gather some basic information about the patient and review it before starting counseling. The nurse should review the barriers before the patient that prevent her from quitting smoking. The barriers like job pressure, family stress, personal thoughts, support systems, and anxiety about future life. The nurse should assess the self-confidence level of the patient and her determination about quitting smoking is very essential.
The nurse should assess the basic details about the patient like family problems, job stress, peer pressure in life, anxiety about future life etc. which acts as a barrier before her to quit the smoking habit. Self-determination of the patient is very important than any other things in order to quit any bad habits.
