Introduction: Lung compliance is the magnitude of change in lung volume generated through a change in the transpulmonary pressure (Ptp). It can be calculated using the formula give below:
CL=ΔV÷ΔPtp=ΔV÷Δ(Palv−Pip)
Where, CL represents lung compliance, ∆V represents change in volume, ∆Ptp represents change in transpulmonary pressure, Palv represents alveolar pressure and Pip represents intrapleural pressure.
Transpulmonary pressure is the difference between the alveolar pressure and the intrapleural pressure. It can be calculated as:
Ptp=Palv−Pip
