The reaction efficiency with respect to the desired product can be determined by calculating the percent atom economy. Atom economy is a main idea of green chemistry. It is a widely used metrics for greenness measurement of the reaction process. The formula for percent atom economy is:

% Atom economy =Mass of atoms in the desired productMass of atoms in all reagents×100%
