Chapter 13, Problem 13.1Q
Interpretation Introduction
Interpretation:
A list of safety consideration for making and operating the chemical reactors is to be stated.
Concept introduction:
The making of the safety consideration for the chemical reactors requires the deep knowledge of all the processes that occurs in the reactor. The safety analysis of the reactor is completed by the mathematical model. The cause of runaway reactions in the reactor is overpressure.
Expert Solution & Answer
Explanation of Solution
A list of safety consideration for making and operating the chemical reactors is given below.
- The sufficient capacity, resistance to corrosion and rating of pressure must be present in the reactor. The maintenance of the pressure and temperature conditions should be done properly by using closures in the reactor.
- The operating person of the reactor should be properly trained. The reactor’s equipment should be properly maintained by the operating person.
- In case of non working of agitator, the monomer feed should b stopped with addition of full cooling.
- The short-stopping system is applied for stooping the runaway reaction.
- The mixture of reaction with the inhibitor is prepared by using the good agitation.
- The room of the reactor should be well-ventilated. The room must have exhaust fan close to the pressure vessel which generates the toxic gases.
- The overfilling of the vessel should not be done.
- The chemical reactor should be made with the help of appropriate material which are suitable for different reactions.
