A researcher wants to see if gender and / or income affects the total amount of help given to a stranger who is sitting on the side of a busy road with a sign asking for help. The independent variables are gender, income, and the interaction of gender and income. The dependent variable is total help. He wants to know if one or both factors – or the interaction of the two - affects the total amount of help offered. Because he is analyzing two independent variables (gender and income), he used a factorial ANOVA. His results show the main effect of each of the independent variables on the dependent variable (total help) and the interaction effect. The researcher is using a 95% confidence interval which means that he wants to be at least 95% sure that his independent variables affected total help if he rejects the null hypothesis. Below is the data set followed by the results:
A researcher is interested in studying how the number of books parents read to their children can influence a child's reading skills in kindergarten. She randomly assigns families with 5 year old children to either read their child 3 books per day, 2 book per day, or 1 book per day for the first 2 months of kindergarten. They then measure the children's reading ability. What is the independent variable?

- A survey of used car dealers in the Wichita area was conducted by the Wichita Eagle to determine the relationship between the amount of classified advertising of used cars and used car sales. The table below shows the hundreds of lines of classified ads (200=2) and the number of used cars sold in a month for each of the six dealers who used no other advertising medium. The dealers want to predict the number of used cars sold based on the amount of classified advertising. One sample of 10 depressed patients participated in this study. After four weeks of treatment, the patients completed the Beck Depression Inventory. The data included the average Math SAS score of all high school seniors in the city that took the exam (labeled as the variable SAT-M), the average number of dollars per pupil spent on education by the city (labeled as the variable $Per Pupil), and the percentage of high school seniors in the city that took the exam (labeled as the variable %Taking). The researcher ran the following multiple linear regression model as SAT-M=Beta0 + Beta1($Per Pupil) + Beta2(%Taking). This model was fit to the data using the method of least-squares, results shown inside of table within photo. If we want to test using ANOVA F-test with hypotheses Ho: Beta1=Beta2=0 versus H1: at least one of the Beta is not 0, what would the value of our F-statistic mean?arrow_forward
