Modeling Linear Demand You have been hired as a marketing consultant by Big Book Publishing, Inc., and you have been approached to determine the best-selling price for the hit calculus text by Whiner and Istanbul entitled Fun with Derivatives. You decide to make life easy and assume that the demand equation for Fun with Derivatives has the linear form
a. Your market studies reveal the following sales figures: When the price is set at $50.00 per book, the sales amount to 10,000 per year; when the price is set at $80.00 per book, the sales drop to 1,000 per year. Use these data to calculate the demand equation.
b. Now estimate the unit price that maximizes annual revenue and predict what Big Book Publishing, Inc.’s annual revenue will be at that price.

- If you are performing a break-even analysis for a business and their cost and revenue equations are dependent, explain what this means for the company's profit margins.arrow_forwardA soccer stadium holds 62,000 spectators. With aticket price of$11, the average attendance has been26,000. When the price dropped to $9, the averageattendance rose to 31,000. Assuming that attendanceis linearly related to ticket price, what ticket pricewould maximize revenue?arrow_forwardThe manufacturer of a weight training bench spends $120 to build each bench and sells them for $170. The manufacturer also has fixed costs each month of $150,000. (a) Find the cost function C when x benches are manufactured. (b) Find the revenue function R when x benches are sold. (c) Show the break-even point by graphing both the Revenue and Cost functions on the same grid. (d) Find the break-even point. Interpret what the break-even point means.arrow_forward
