The wall street Journal’s Shareholder Scoreboard tracks the performance of 1000 major U.S. companies. The performance of each company is rated based on the annual total return, including stock price changes and the reinvestment of dividends. Ratings are assigned by dividing all 1000 companies into five groups from A (top 20%), B (next 20%), to E (bottom 20%). Shown here are the one-year ratings for a sample of 60 of the largest companies. Do the largest companies differ in performance from the performance of the 1000 companies in the Shareholder Scoreboard? use α = .05.

- The following table shows the total return and the number of funds for four categories of mutual funds. Excel File: data03-17.xlsx Type of Fund Domestic Equity International Equity Specialty Stock Hybrid a. (to 2 decimals) % Number of Funds 9,191 2,621 1,419 2,900 Total Return (%) 4.65 18.15 11.36 6.75 b. Is there any difficulty associated with using the "number of funds" as the weights in computing the weighted average total return in part (a)? Discuss. What else might be used for weights? (i) Using "number of funds" as weights will only be a good approximation if the amount invested in various funds is approximately equal. The amount invested in each fund could be used for weights. (ii) Using "number of funds" as weights results in a good approximation regardless of the amount invested in various funds. There is no need to use a different weight. (iii) Using "number of funds" as…arrow_forwardHow do college professors spend their time? A sales manager has come up with a new sales incentive plan that she believes will increase the monthly sales for each salesperson. To test her new sales incentive plan she takes a Simple Random Sample (SRS) of 35 sales people, trains them in her new sales plan, and records each salesperson's monthly total sales for the next month. She will use this data to run the hypothesis test: H subscript O colon space mu less or equal than 15000H subscript A colon space mu greater than 15000 If the data yielded a Test Statistic (TS) equal to 2.032 (with the appropriate dfs, IF this TS is a T-number), then calculate the PValue (PV) for this TS.
