Chapter 12, Problem 8TYU
Summary Introduction

To explain:

Make and explain a concept map illustrating normal events at the G1 checkpoint including p53, DNA damage, Rb, E2F, social signals, G1 Cdk (cyclin dependent kinases), G1 cyclin, S- phase proteins, phosphorylated (inactivated) cyclin-Cdk, dephosphorylated (activated) cyclin-Cdk, phosphorylated (inactivated) Rb.

Introduction:

G1 phase is a part of the cell cycle that act as checkpoint for the cells that are undergoing the process of cell division. G1 checkpoint checks whether the cell's size is adequate for division or not, it has sufficient nutrients in it, responses to signalling molecules or not and also whether there is any damage in the DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) or not. When all these criteria are fulfilled then the cell is promoted towards the next phase of the cell cycle, that is, the S-phase where, replication in the cell's DNA takes place.
