Yeast is a eukaryotic and single celled organism and it belongs to the kingdom of fungi.  Around 1,500 species of yeasts are identified. The phylogenetic division shows phyla and subphyla, phyla are of two types, Ascomycota following subphyla Saccharomycotina (true yeast), Taphrinomycotina, Schizosaccharomycetes (fission yeast) and another phyla called Basidiomycota following subphyla Agaricomycotina, Tremellomycetes, pucciniomycotina and Microbotryomycetes. Yeast is a beneficial and pathogenic microorganism.
