• Internet Protocol is a protocol suite that provides routing of packets from one computer to another computer.
• Each host or computer contains an IP address. IP address is a numeric identifier to uniquely recognize the host in the network.
• IP uses the router to forward the packets with the help of routing table.

Proprietary protocol:

• Proprietary protocol is the software protocol that is owned and controlled by commercial vendors, which keep the product private.
• It provides support for the people who use this technology through the developer.
• It is more profitable by charging money for the developers.

Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF):

• IETF is an open standard organization which includes network designers, developers, engineers, researchers and many others.
• The internet standards were established and developed by IETF.
• The main objective of IETF is to provide good quality and efficient internet.
• The formal name given to internet standards is Request for Comments (RFC).
