Sickle cell anemia:

An undesired change in the particular amino acid sequence of a protein is known as error in the primary structure of a protein. Hemoglobin is the blood protein that acts as an oxygen carrier. The undesired change in the amino acid sequence of its primary structure can be the alteration of glutamic acid to valine. This substitution distorts the normal shape of the hemoglobin to an abnormal shape that looks like a crescent shape or a rigid sickle. Consequently, the concentration of oxygen lowers. This condition is known as sickle cell disease. When some of the sickle cells are destroyed, anemia results and it is known as sickle cell anemia.
