Concept explainers
To explain: the colored material used to change the color of other substances.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
The colored material used to change the color of other substances is called dye or pigment.
Dyes are colored substances which can change the color of other substances permanently.
They are soluble substances and have a special affinity for the substrate they color. Generally dyes are organic compounds. On the other hand, pigment is a colored material that is completely or nearly insoluble in water. Pigments are insoluble color particles which require a binding agent to hold them on the surface of the material being colored.
Conclusion:
Thus, the colored material used to change the color of a substance is dye or pigment.
