Chapter 12, Problem 1WYL
What muscles are you using when you protract the scapula?
Expert Solution & Answer
Summary Introduction
To determine:
The muscles that are used when the scapula is protracted.
Introduction:
Scapula refers to the bone that establishes a connection between the humerus, which is the bone of the upper arm with the clavicle or the collar bone. The scapula is responsible for forming the back of the shoulder girdle.
Explanation of Solution
The retraction and protraction of the scapula are monitored by different sets of muscles. When the pectoralis minor and serratus anterior contract, then the scapula gets protracted. The pectoral girdle muscles originate from the axial skeleton and get inserted on the scapula and the clavicle.
