Answer to Problem 1TP

An independent sample t-test is used to compare two means for situation in each participant is assigned to only one condition whereas a dependent samples test is used to compare two means for situations in which every participant is in both conditions.

Explanation of Solution

Independent samples t-test:

An independent samples t-test is an inferential statistical test that checks whether there is any statistically significant difference between the means of two groups.

In independent t-test, the main motive is to find the difference between two independent groups. In accordance to find the mean difference between two groups.

Dependent samples t-test:

A dependent t-test compares the means of two related groups to find whether there is any statistically significant difference between the means of two groups.

In dependent t-test, the same participant is tested for more than one time.
