Interpretation:

The given alcohol as primary, secondary, tertiary has to be classified.

Concept Introduction:

Alcohol is an organic compound which contains a hydroxyl group ($-OH$ ) as functional group which attached to the alkyl group.  Alcohols are classified as primary ($1º$ ), secondary ($2º$), or tertiary ($3º$) depending upon the number of alkyl groups attached to carbinol carbon which having the hydroxyl ($-OH$) group.  The classification of alcohols can be structurally represented as follows,

• If one alkyl group is attached to the carbinal carbon then it is said to be primary alcohol.
• If two alkyl groups are attached to the carbinal carbon then it is said to be secondary alcohol.
• If three alkyl groups are attached to the carbinal carbon then it is said to be tertiary alcohol.
