Concept explainers
Interpretation: The possibility of manganese to occupy holes in the austenite fcc unit cell or being substitutional alloys is to be validated.
Concept introduction: An alloy is a solution that is made up of mixing of atoms of an element with other element which results in change in properties of the host element. Interstitial alloys are formed when the atoms of the added element occupy the spaces between the atoms of the host elements.
Substitutional alloys are the alloys that are similar in size and there is a exchange of atoms with other atoms, where some atoms that are producing the metallic crystals are exchange with the atoms of other constituent.
To validate: The possibility of manganese to occupy holes in the austenite fcc unit cell or being substitutional alloys.
