Concept Introduction:
Addition of water molecule to an unsaturated bond present in hydrocarbon is known as hydration. In hydration of alkyne, the product formed is an aldehyde or a ketone depending upon the group that is attached to the carbon atom that is present in the unsaturated bond. During hydration of alkyne an enol intermediate is formed which is unstable and it isomerizes to either an aldehyde or ketone.
General structure of alkyne can be given as,
Two cases are possible here. One is that the R group can be hydrogen atom and R group can be an alkyl group.
