Explanation There are four different trends on the design given below. 1. Modular design: modular design means the modularity in the design. It means the process of subdivide in multiple and smaller parts and development of the each parts or component independently and serve the multiple functionalities. Each of the part is to fulfill a certain criteria to meet the result. Suppose manufacturing of a car is needed, before starting the process multiple stages of processes is fixed. Each component is development separately to meet the result. 2. Platform design: platform design is a modern way of designing and developing complex and intricate products depends on the suitable hardware and software. It reduces the risks of development, developing costs and time. It reduces the efforts to develop a product by platform design. Platform design provides the virtual visualization of the product working and its functions, while using the platform design there is no need of wasting material and time, all the type of tests can be performed virtually. Platform design is flexible in nature and less time consuming. 3. Conventional design: the conventional design means the designing of the product with repeated modification and analysis until the desired product is achieved. Conventional designing is time consuming and it does not give optimum solution always. Wasting of material and time is lot in conventional process. By using conventional design process product can’t be always précised. 4. Adaptive design: adaptive design is a process of investigating the device thoroughly and providing appropriate features and solutions according to the previous detected characteristics. In this type of the design previous design matters a lot, it is a just improvement over the earlier design. Similarity among all the processes is that all the processes are the way to develop something new design. All the processes are the key to develop a new design. The differences is that in the above four trends, platform design is the new and modern way to design and easy to operate and less time consuming while in the modular design takes time but it gives the specific attention on every component, but in the conventional design process it is very time consuming.
