Given Information: 20.00mL of 0.1033MNaOH is neutralized with 0.850M H2SO4 solution.

The balanced chemical equation is,

H2SO4(aq)+2NaOH(aq)Na2SO4(aq)+2H2O(l)

The molarity of NaOH solution is 0.1033M . This means that 0.1033mol of NaOH is present per liter in the solution. The volume of 0.1033M solution is 20mL , so this must be converted into liters. The relationship between molarity, moles of solute, and volume of solution is,

Molarity=Moles of soluteVolume of solution in liter    ......1

So, moles of solute can be calculated by rearranging equation 1 .

Moles of solute=Molarity×Volume of solution in liter    ......2

Moles of 0.1033MNaOH present in the 20mL solution are calculated using equation 2 .

Moles of NaOH=20.0mL×1L1000mL×0.1033mol1L=0.002066mol

It is apparent from the balanced equation that 1mol of H2SO4 reacts with 2mol NaOH . So, the moles of H2SO4 is,

Hence, 0.00121L of 0.850M H2SO4 are required to neutralize 20mLof the NaOH solution. Since the volume in liter is very small, it is converted to milliliter.

Volume of H2SO4 in milliliter=00.00121L×1000mL1L=1.21mL
