Summary Introduction

Introduction:

Neuroglial cells or glia are a part of nervous system, along with neurons. Derived from the Greek word “glue,” glia were known to hold the neurons together. Glia are predominant in cerebral cortex. Astrocytes are star-shaped glia which surround the synapses of functionally related axons. They also take up ions and transmitters released by the axons and then leave them back, thereby sending the message of the impulse in waves, and helps synchronize closely related neurons.
