To determine:

The reason that even though Clostridium is strictly an anaerobic bacterium, it can be isolated easily from the exposed surface of the skin.

Introduction:

Clostridium is a Gram positive, obligate anaerobe that reproduces by forming rod shaped vegetative cells. Species of Clostridium inhabit soil and gastrointestinal tract of many animals but normally it is an inhabitant of reproductive tract of healthy women.
