Introduction

Social exchange theory contends that a lot of what we do derives from one's motivation to increase rewards and minimize costs. However, the difference with this theory is that its origins are not traced back to our genetic or evolutionary pedigrees, but rather stem from the fact that some altruistic behaviors can be based on one's self-interest to augment the amount of social rewards to social costs.
