Chapter 11, Problem 1TC
Summary Introduction

To determine:

The possibility of an offspring having both recessive traits when a plant with RrTT is crossed with a plant with rrTt . Red fruit (R) and tall (T) traits are dominant over recessive traits of yellow fruit (r) and short height (t) of plants.

Introduction:

The dihybrid cross is the cross between the two organisms that carry the same allele for two different traits. The Mendel gave the relationship between the dominant and recessive gene from this concept. The law of independent assortment explains that if the parents are carrying heterozygous alleles for two triats, dominant trait will mask the recessive trait in the F1 generation.

Explanation of Solution

In a dihybrid cross, the dominant trait needs at least one form of the allele for its expression and recessive trait needs both alleles for its expression. The phenotypic ratio of dihybrid cross is 9:3:3:1 .

The cross between parental traits did not produce any offspring with both recessive traits (rrtt) and thus the possibility of an offspring having both recessive traits when a plant with RrTT is crossed with a plant with rrTt is zero.

Conclusion

From the punnett square it is clear that the chances of getting an offspring having both recessive trait is none when the parents of RrTT and rrTt genotypes are crossed.

A negligence action was brought by a mother against a hospital on behalf of her minor daughter. It alleged that when the mother was 13 years of age, the hospital negligently transfused her with Rh-positive blood. The mother's Rh-negative blood was incompatible with and sensitized by the Rh-positive blood. The mother discovered her condition 8 years later during a routine blood screening ordered by her healthcare provider in the course of prenatal care. The resulting sensitization of the mother's blood allegedly caused damage to the fetus, resulting in physical defects and premature birth. Did a patient relationship with the transfusing hospital exist?
