Once an organism starts its fixed action pattern, it will continue until the whole sequence of actions is completed. In geese, the egg retrieval behavior is the way a mother goose rolls an egg back into the nest, under her. She will roll the egg using a side to side motion and tuck it under her; this movement is carried out till completion even if the egg is taken away in the process.
