Sun is middle-aged, main sequence star of G2 spectral type. The surface temperature of the Sun is 5800 K. The structure of Sun is defined by hydrostatic equilibrium and energy balance.

Hydrostatic equilibrium is the balance of inward force of gravity by the outward force due to pressure of radiation. The Sun would collapse if the inward and outward forces were not balanced.

Energy balance is the balance between energy production and loss. The sun emits huge amount of energy per second nearly equal to 3.282×1026W. To emit such large amount of energy continuously, it produces energy in its core by nuclear fusion.
