In a compound, pure substance is composed of elements bonded chemically in the definite proportions. With the help of chemical reactions, a compound can be broken down to form simple substances, whereas, a solution consists of two or more substances, and it is a homogeneous solution.
Mixtures consist of two or more substances, and it is of two types homogeneous and heterogeneous.
Homogeneous mixture is defined as the solution in which the compositions are same throughout the mixture.
Heterogeneous mixture is defined as the mixture in which compositions are different throughout the mixture.
Answer to Problem 1E
All solutions are homogenous but all mixtures are not homogenous. A solution is formed when the solute is mixed in solvents and compounds are formed by elements combining in definite proportions.
Explanation of Solution
When a substance is in its pure state, it is composed of chemical elements that are bonded in defined proportion. This substance is known as compound. These compounds can break down into smaller units when undergoing a chemical reaction. In reaction like electrolysis, the larger units of compounds getdivided to smaller units.
A solution is homogenous mixture in which components arein same phase, and they are same throughout the reaction.
Due to same physical state, the components of homogeneous mixtures cannot be separated by the process of simple filtration. Mixtures can have different composition at different state, the state of the components can also be different, and such mixtures are heterogeneous mixture.Due to different physical state, the components of heterogeneous mixtures canbe separated by the process of simple filtration.
