The walls of the arteries are generally thicker and contain more smooth muscle and elastic fibers, enabling them to resist and adjust to the pressure generated by the heart.The venous walls are thinner and the pressure in the veins is less than that in the arteries.
The arteries constrict more than the veins.The veins constrict less. This is because when the veins constrict, their capacity to hold blood is reduced.
