The cerebral cortex is responsible for providing higher brain functions. It helps in the interpretation of impulses from sense organs, initiation of voluntary muscular movements, storage of information in the form of memory, and using the information in reasoning. The cerebral cortex is also responsible for intelligence and personality. The functional regions of the cortex are sensory areas of the cortex, association areas of the cortex, and motor areas of the cortex.
