Interpretation:

This mechanism is unfeasible whereas the same mechanism with HCl as the acid is feasible; the reason behind this is to be determined.

Concept introduction:

Electron rich compounds of hydrogen contain excess valence electrons to form covalent bonds. Electron-poor (electrophiles) substrates can accept an electron pair to form a new bond. They are attached by nucleophiles (electron rich). In alkene, the strong Bronsted acids such as HCl, HBr, HI, and H2SO4 quickly add to the C=C functional group. The hydrogen and conjugate base of the acid forms covalent bond with the alkene molecule.
