Isotonic solutions are the solutions having equal osmotic pressure or having equal concentrations. Isotonic saline is also known as normal saline. It is the solution with the concentration of 0.9% solution of sodium chloride in distilled water.

When saline is dispersed in body intravenously then these are known as, IV solutions. Another common name of this solution is D5W.
