In the gold standard system, the value of the paper currency is attached to the value of the gold. In international trade gold is used as a medium of exchange. It had several advantages as of being limited its demand is high. Secondly, it is resistant to corrosion hence can be stored for hundreds of years. Lastly, it could be molded into coins or bars by melting enabling to make small or large purchases.
