Hershey and Chase experiment is considered as the most important experiment in genetics as it proved that DNA is the genetic material. Hershey and chase used 32P containing media to grow one batch of E.coli and used 35S containing media for another batch and infected both the batches with T2 bacteriophage and the virus released after lysis of E.coli consisted of 32P which proved that DNA is the genetic material which is transferred from one generation to another.
